Part 1
Sifu's feeling fancy today. |
Spencer mentions a ghost story that in old abandoned mansions like the one they're filming in front, they always have a vanity table and mirror belonging to the original female owners and that gradually they will appear in the mirror again. Much glad I didn't recap this episode last night then, my mirror is in front of me and I hate mirrors at night already D: Nopeeeee.
What's left of the chair. |
Kinda looks like he's on the loo. |
Howard reluctantly sits on the frame of the Tai Si chair and he complains that immediately after sitting on it he can hear noises from outside. The cameraman shines the light over and (quite grumpily might I add) says that they filmed over there a lot of times already and there's nothing there. The voice over says that after sitting on the chair for only 10 seconds, he becomes much more sensitive to the spirit world and his reaction is different to previous shoots. Is he just being paranoid or does the chair actually allow him to see ghosts?
Le shock! |
Not a traffic warden. |
Nothing over here... |
Back at the discussion, Howard says that the temperature and atmosphere felt completely different after sitting on the chair and he could see lots of black and white forms moving in front of him. Spencer asks him if he felt like he was in another dimension and he answered that it seemed a bit like there was an overlap.
Hi MTV, welcome to my Crib! |
Possibly an ancient water basin |
Knocked over chairs |
"Y doeee?!" |
Part 2
The ancient gates! |
They apologise for doing housework. |
"What do you feel?" "I feel... like I'm Iron Man..." |
Avengers Assemble |
He then instructs her to raise her left hand to cover her forehead but not her eyes (possibly covering the 3rd eye?) and to raise her right hand like before to see if she can feel anything paranormal. Maggie asks if spirits appear, what feeling will she have. The Master says he won't tell her, it's up to her to experience for herself. Cryptic, Master is also a troll!
The look of pain or pleasure? loooool |
We zip back to the footage from the haunted village. A voice over tells us that when they returned to the Wong family mansion area, the film crew originally wanted Howard to film his solo paranormal experience but Howard keeps refusing and asks to rest. Someone from the film crew asks him to test whether the Tai Si chair really made him see more spirits but Howard's condition seemed to worsen and the temperature decreased again so they went to have something to eat in the hopes of increasing his energy. Whilst getting food, he seemed zombie-like but the film crew told him he can't be like this, the night will be even longer if he's like this. Howard is like a little kid, he's almost begging like a child, it's kind of cute but the film crew obviously think he's being a baby >.< blessss.
Ghost stories by the campfire during his 15 minute rest. There are no breaks in ghost hunting! |
They then sit around the fire and ask No.1 Man how he initially discovered this village and he answers that he accidentally stumbled across it. The strange things he experienced was that they kept dropping/losing things. His hiking companions would notice they'd lost belongings whilst hiking. Another strange occurrence was one of the girls became possessed/haunted. She would laugh and cry randomly and babble nonsense. She'd say that there's someone over there when all of their hiking party were together over here. Her crying were in someone else's voice her eyes went black.
He does not want to be there. |
Howard finally goes back inside the Wong mansion for his solo paranormal experience after resting for 15 minutes. He says to his surroundings that he's not trying to disturb them, he's just there for his work. He then starts complaining about being forced to sleep inside that mansion and says it's crazy, he doesn't know why they're forcing him to.
His torch fell out his pocket. |
Let there be light! |
Suddenly, Howard yelps (he's like a puppy, he yelps a lot hahaa) and his torch falls out of his pocket. Did he yelp because the torch fell out or did it fall out because he moved? Curious... It happens too quick for me to tell. He says there's a person's form and then he lights some candles/incense just to be safe. He says he feels like there's someone watching him and he clutches onto his pillow. So pitiful >.< Bless hahaa.
Feeling the air. |
This is where Maggie said she saw the figure moving. |
We cut back to Maggie feeling the air and she suddenly calls out for them and she tells them she saw a woman walk across on the other side of the room but she came from a wall. Spencer says that apart from Maggie, there are no other females present. Maggie says that she saw very clearly it was a humanoid but it was all white like a smoke. She says she saw it walk into the end room.
Climbing through your windows, and snatching your people up. |
The alcove where Spencer saw someone watching them from. |
They notice that it's a kitchen. Spencer then looks away from the kitchen and says at the top of the stove is an alcove and he said he saw someone watching them from there. Maggie says she can feel a chill coming out from the room. Howard asks whether Spencer also saw a female and he says he didn't see what gender but he just accidentally saw it when he squatted down a bit. The camera crew go inside to film the alcove but then they hear a sound and notice something fell down. The Master says that's actually a place that a ghost lives and the dropped object was a signal of their presence so they shouldn't disturb them any longer and suggests they leave. Maggie then asks if she can still go inside and find them and the Master says basically they've all seen it now so there's no need to carry on disturbing them. Wait why she suddenly become so brave, wanting to go inside and everything? Crazy lady! Howard asks whether they need to do any rituals or offerings and the Master says there's no need because as a spirit that originally lives there, it has its own power. Don't understand what he means by this but I guess he just wants them to gtfo...
Spencer asks the Master whether he thinks the spirit is someone that originally lived at the mansion or is it a nearby lost soul. Master thinks that it's a lost soul because he knows that nearby there's a hospital and if it was a spirit from the original owners, they would have no need to stay in an empty, abandoned house.
Part 3
Spencer asks Maggie what she felt when she was holding her hand out on the chair and she says that she could feel that certain areas were especially cold like a fridge so she would focus on those areas and then she actually saw a translucent humanoid figure go past into the end room. Spencer asks the Master whether after using the hand method, does Maggie need to do any rituals but the Master says it's not necessary because this method uses your mind's original sensitivity and it's just a matter of whether you sense the paranormal or not.
Gagging |
SOS |
We return to Howard's solo paranormal experience inside the Wong mansion. He suddenly clutches his head and starts sobbing and says "please don't bother me". He then starts heaving and keels over and calls for help.
The voice over says that the film crew notice that the candles on the altar suddenly got much brighter and wondered whether it was a warning from the spirits.
They finally come to his rescue. |
The crew enter to help Howard and he's curled in a ball and heaving. Someone says to pat him on the back (I think this is one of the things they do to possessed people?) and they radio for the Master to come.
Casting a spell |
Howard keeps trying to throw up and when they manage to sit him back up, he becomes unresponsive and dopey. The Master gets some incense and does some sort of ritual which immediately after, Howard keels over.
Come on, I know he's a bit whingey but you don't have to spit on him lololol. |
The Master takes a mouthful of water and spits it in Howard's face, then hands him the rest of the water to drink. He asks Howard how he's feeling and he says he feels a bit better now. He asks him does he know his own name and Howard says yes and tells him.
Shine bright like a diamond! |
The Master tells them they need to leave the area, then has a special mirror tool which is uses to pat Howard's back and yells "leave" (presumably telling the spirit to leave his body). The voice over says that after the Master's rituals, Howard's condition seems to improve but his expression still remained dazed. Seeing Howard's condition, the Master suspects the crew are keeping something from him so they come clean and tell him they left the "sealed" area to find the Tai Si chair.
Giving them a good telling off. |
The Master scolds them and says this is a matter of life or death and not about work. They ask the Master what they should do now since they can't stay in that room. The Master says Howard is fine now but they need to wait until sunrise before they can leave.
Back at the discussion, Spencer asks Howard was the experience very grueling and he says watching back the clip, he remembered wondering whether he'd die there because he couldn't breathe and it felt like a really long time before someone came to save him. Maggie asks the Master why the candle flames shook so much when the situation happened. The Master says another "yin qi" (spirit?) was affecting the "yin qi" there which is why the flames were oscillating. Spencer says he thought the flames shook because the spirits were travelling through the flames and the Master says that that could also be the case because spirits follow the light to move from yin to yang. Yeah none of this makes sense to me either but just smile and nod.
Spencer asks about the mainland's Master's "sealing" of the area and why leaving the area would bring problems. The Master says before you make the seal, you have to do a ritual (?). He asks Spencer if he remembers the time they had to throw salt and rice to seal an area and "lock the positive". Once sealed, the ghosts will not be able to enter. Spencer explains that once sealed, outside spirits cannot enter but the ones already within the boundary also cannot leave so it was easy for Howard to be affected.
Spencer says that he noticed Howard pick up the candles from outside (they were stuck into the ground so I think they were supposed to be for lost souls around the area instead of for the spirit at the altar) to light inside and says that's not something he would do. He asks the Master did he break the seal in doing so. The Master says that it's possible because relighting the candle means opening another road for the spirit to travel in. Spencer asks why Howard took the candle to light inside and he explains that the candles inside suddenly went out so it was really dark and he was too scared to sleep so he took the other candles from outside to light inside. Spencer explains he would never leave a "sealed/protected" area and says maybe Howard is not used to filming this show so didn't know but he should never do that again. Howard says won't and he will never return to that haunted village.
Part 4
The hosts say that the crew managed to accidentally record footage of paranormal activity and Howard tells them that apart from the film crew, hiking guides, and Masters, no one else was at the village. Spencer says to pay attention to the form in a hole behind Howard after he got possessed. Also, in a group picture they took, behind the Master, there was an extra person. Ahhhh I hate when an extra person appears in a group photo, lemme just nope straight outta here D:
Howard is describing his experience when he was trying to sleep inside the house. He said he managed to sleep for a little bit. The surroundings were very uncomfortable because behind him there was a hole and in front was the altar and it made him feel like the Old Man was keeping watch on him. He says the moment he yelped, he felt someone tug him which is why he woke up. He didn't feel quite right which was why he lit the candles but not long after, he felt a numb ache on his head. When he curled into a ball, his stomach ached as if there was something walking around inside his stomach. He didn't dare to look around him and it was very hard to breathe. He shouted for help many times and then the crew went inside to help him. He really did, they took their sweet time to check on him, he was just shouting for help and they just strolled in like "whaddup" loool -.-". He also said kept trying to throw up as if he was trying to get rid of something inside.
This scolded puppy |
The footage then shows Howard asking the Master is it because his qi was low and the Master replies: 1) Your qi is relatively low, 2) he didn't have any protective tools or rituals on his person, 3) he went into "someone else's" home. Well water doesn't intrude into river water (I'll mind my own business, you mind yours). He says they've intruded on their territory so it's no wonder they are uneasy so will have such a big reaction to him. Howard asks is this an evil consequence and the Master says it's not, it's karma/causality. The Master says, because he entered that place and did intrusive things, that's why he had such a reaction. Poor puppy, he retreats like a puppy that's been scolded aishh. It's not his fault the production team want him to intrude!
The stone is halfway dropping in this screen cap. It looks blurry because of the motion but on the clip it does fall very clearly. |
The voice over reminds the audience that before Howard's incident, he'd said he felt like he was being watched from the hole (actually, I'm pretty sure he didn't specify from the hole. I think they embellished that on after they thought they'd recorded a shadow in the hole...) Footage is shown of the hole where a stone dropped from a crevice. The voice over says that if it fell because of wind, the candle flames would have moved so what sort of force had made it drop? Erm, I dunno, maybe the force of gravity?
Master's debrief |
The ask the Master what could have happened for Howard to suffer like that. The Master says it's because he left the boundary and intruded on someone else's territory. They came to the village as guests so they can't act like they own the place. The Master says they stubbornly decided to leave the sealed area so this incident happened. They asked why Howard's stomach would hurt and the Master replies that it's a spirit teasing him. The voice off camera asks whether they've done a lot of bad things by filming there and the Master says yes. He says when other people talk about you, you'd feel uncomfortable so the spirits would too. He advises them to do more good deeds. They ask him does everyone have karma? The Master says yes and tells them to keep focusing on involving the spirits. Lol, bit hard when that's what the program's about... ^^"
Even ghosts like to selfie. |
The voice over says that when they were taking a group photo by the fire, some green flames suddenly appeared and behind the Master, a face appeared to peer over his shoulder. D: Ok I thought it was creepy when I saw the footage at first because the movement looks like someone peeking over the Master's shoulder but then again, it does also look like it could be a bit of smoke or another reflection from the lens like the green glow?
Howard's hair is cute as a bowl cut on the field shoots but he looks really weird in the discussion shoots. What did they do to his hair? |
Howard says he feels like he had a near death experience and that it might seem a bit exaggerated but the experience was very painful for him and he said it was very memorable because he's never experienced this before. He said this experience was 10x worse than any of his paranormal experiences before.
Finally it's dawn! |
Pretty cherry blossom! |
"Welcome you to return." Har har someone has a sense of humour >.< |
It's dawn and they collect their things and pay their last respects by burning the rest of the incense and ghost money. They hike back out of the village and Howard says he will never return.
We return to the hosts again and Spencer asks the Master whether the green glow in the photos were paranormal phenomena. The Master says he doesn't think so because even when you use your phone to take photos, you can take photos which have a lot colours and lights (this Master is super down with the kids!) and thinks that it's something to do with the lens. Spencer asks whether Howard knew that the stone fell by itself in the hole and Howard says he didn't know because he'd already left and he was really weak.
They discuss the mysterious translucent figure that appeared behind the Master. Spencer says he thought the figure didn't have much expression and he thought it's difficult to explain. Howard explains that they would never return to the Fung Moon Village, not only because of all the paranormal activity there, but because the hike is extremely dangerous and grueling. The hike back up to the mountain took twice the amount of time because it was going uphill and also the altitude was affecting their breathing.
When I watch the Unbelievable, I do like to put on a jokey, sceptical perspective but it's really because I'm a wimp and I get freaked out by paranormal stuff, yet love to watch these kinds of shows! I tried to give my own explanations for their strange phenomena and I always remind myself that what they broadcast is concerned with entertainment value most so they are most probably acting or faking some of the stuff so that the audience can watch a good show. I saw a lot of comments on the video (on a youtube link) saying how fake The Unbelievable is but I guess that makes is less scary and more entertaining for me. I guess I just like to hear the ghost stories but not to be in one myself >.<
